Grammar

1. Sentence to present cause (first part) and consequence (second part) resulted by the cause.
   Pattern:

   V て-form	、 〜
   V　ない-form なくて	、 〜
   い-adj （〜　い) くて	、 〜
   な-adj （〜　な) で	、 〜

   Unlike the 〜から、this pattern has several constraints:

   • The second part (consequence) cannot express volition: expressing feeling, states, or situation in the past.
     Example:
     疲れて、寝ました。 (Correct)
     つかれて、ねました。 〜て、〜で、〜ので、途中で 疲れて、寝ましょう。 (Incorrect)
     つかれて、ねましょう。
     I was tired and slept.

   • The first part and second part are sequential events.
     Example:
     雨が降って、道がぬれました。 (Correct)
     あめがふって、みちがぬれました。 The rain fell, and the road got wet.

2. Particle で to indicate reason or cause.
   Pattern:　

   N で

   〜

   The N(oun) used in this pattern expresses a reason or cause from natural phenomena, events, and happenings. like じこ、あらし、かぜ、ねつ etc.
   Example:
   事故で電車が遅れました。
   じこででんしゃがおくれました。
   The train was delayed due to an accident.

3. ので to express reason or cause (more polite than から)
   Pattern:

   V る/ない-form + ので	〜
   い-adj + い ので	〜
   な-adj + な ので	〜
   N + の ので	〜

   Example:

   • 疲れたので、寝ます。
     つかれたので、ねます。
     I am tired, so I will sleep.
   • 雨が降っているので、出かけません。
     あめがふっているので、でかけません。
     I will not go out because it is raining.
   • 風邪なので、学校を休みます。
     かぜなので、がっこうをやすみます。
     I am absent from school because I have a cold.
   • 先生なので、忙しいです。
     せんせいなので、いそがしいです。
     Because I am a teacher, I am busy.

4. Expression 途中で　 to indicate “in the middle of ~”, “on the way ~”
   Pattern:

   N (place, time) + 途中で、

   〜

   Example:

   • 学校へ行く途中で、友達に会いました。
     がっこうへいくとちゅうで、ともだちにあいました。
     I met my friend on the way to school.
   • 映画の途中で、電話がかかってきました。
     えいがのとちゅうで、でんわがかかってきました。
     A phone call came in during the movie.
