Grammar

Use case: State the speaker’s judgment, opinion, or belief. Pattern: 普通形＋と思います
- Example:
  - 明日雨が降ると思います。
  - あしたあめがふるとおもいます。
  - I think it will rain tomorrow.
Use case: Report what someone says or said, quoting directly or indirectly. Pattern: 「引用」／普通形＋と言います
- Example:
  - 寝るまえに「おやすみなさい」と言います。
  - ねるまえに「おやすみなさい」といいます。
  - We say “goodnight” before going to sleep.
Use case: Seek the listener’s confirmation or agreement about something both parties already know. Pattern: 普通形＋でしょう
- Example:
  - 日曜日映画を見に行くでしょう。
  - にちようびえいがをみにいくでしょう。
  - You’re going to watch a movie on Sunday, right?
Use case: State that an event/occasion takes place at a given location. Pattern: N1（場所）で N2があります
- Example:
  - 明日、雪ちゃんのうちでパーティーがあります。
  - あした、ゆきちゃんのうちでパーティーがあります。
  - There is a party at Yuki’s place tomorrow.
Use case: Mark the event/situation in which something happens. Pattern: N（出来事）で、〜
- Example:
  - 会議室で何か意見を言いましたか。
  - かいぎしつでなにかいけんをいいましたか。
  - Did you say any opinion during the meeting?
Use case: Suggest an item as one representative example from a category, softening the suggestion. Pattern: N でも V
- Example:
  - ちょっとビールでも飲みませんか。
  - ちょっとビールでものみませんか。
  - Would you like some beer or something?
Use case: Express that something must be done, in casual speech (an abbreviated ない form + と). Pattern: V（ない形）と
- Example:
  - もう帰らないと。
  - もうかえらないと。
  - I have to go home now.
