Grammar
- Use case: Introduce the volitional (let’s/I will) form, expressing the speaker’s intention (Group 1: u→o column+う; Group 2: ます→よう; Group 3: irregular).
Pattern: V（意向形）
- Example:
- 書きます → 書こう
- かきます → かこう
- I will write / let’s write
- 食べます → 食べよう
- たべます → たべよう
- I will eat / let’s eat
- Example:
- Use case: State an ongoing intention or plan, including reporting a third person’s intention.
Pattern: V（意向形）と思っています
- Example:
- 銀行へ行こうと思っています。
- ぎんこうへいこうとおもっています。
- I’m planning to go to the bank.
- Example:
- Use case: Express a firm decision about a future action or inaction, stronger than とおもっています.
Pattern: V（辞書形／ない形）つもりです
- Example:
- 明日からたばこを吸わないつもりです。
- あしたからたばこをすわないつもりです。
- I’ve decided not to smoke starting tomorrow.
- Example:
- Use case: Describe a concrete, arranged plan or schedule.
Pattern: N／V（辞書形）予定です
- Example:
- 七月の終わりにドイツへ出張する予定です。
- しちがつのおわりにドイツへしゅっちょうするよていです。
- I’m scheduled to go on a business trip to Germany at the end of July.
- Example:
- Use case: State that an action has not yet been completed/begun.
Pattern: まだ V（て形）いません
- Example:
- 銀行はまだ開いていません。
- ぎんこうはまだあいていません。
