Grammar
- Describe a state that exists as the result of a (usually unintentional or unspecified-agent) past action, using an intransitive verb.
Pattern: V（自動詞・て形）います- Example:
- 窓が閉まっています。
- The window is closed.
- Example:
- Describe an observable current condition, marking the subject with が (new information, not yet topicalized).
Pattern: Nが V（自動詞・て形）います- Example:
- いすが壊れています。
- The chair is broken.
- Example:
- Topicalize the subject with は — often with こ/そ/あ demonstratives — when referring back to something already known.
Pattern: Nは V（自動詞・て形）います- Example:
- このいすは壊れています。
- This chair is broken.
- Example:
- Emphasize that an action has been completed entirely, often by a deadline.
Pattern: V（て形）しまいます／しまいました- Example:
- 明日までにレポートを書いてしまいます。
- I will finish writing the report by tomorrow.
- Example:
- Express regret or dismay over a completed, often unwanted, action or event.
Pattern: V（て形）しまいました- Example:
- パスポートをなくしてしまいました。
- I lost my passport (unfortunately).
- Example:
- Announce that the speaker has found something being searched for.

- かばんがありましたよ。
- I found the bag!
- Example:
- Refer to an unspecified place; unlike へ／を with どこか, the particles で and に cannot be dropped.
